Design and Optimization of Synchronous Motor Using PM Halbach Arrays for Rim-Driven Counter-Rotating Pump

This document deals with the design of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) to peripherally drive counter-rotating pump inducer. The motor/pump is associated using rim-driven principle where motor’s active parts are located at periphery inducer blades. It proposes Halbach array permanent magnets for rotor motor. solution allows generation Sinusoidal Electromotive Force (EMF). Therefore, more stable electromagnetic torque reached. An optimum geometry suitable specifications while respecting operational constraints determined. obtained then simulated Finite Element Method. results satisfactory in terms average and EMF waveform. Use significant improvement flux density air gap compared designed surface-mounted machine. experimental validation will be performed once prototype realized Laboratory Fluid Engineering Energy systems (LISFE).
